Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Punjab this Friday, marking a significant milestone in the state's infrastructure journey. During his visit to Jalandhar Cantonment, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for various rail and road projects valued at over ₹5,470 crore. These projects are strategically designed to enhance passenger amenities, streamline logistics, and catalyze economic activity across Northern India.

Revolutionizing Railway Connectivity

A centerpiece of this visit is the implementation of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Under this initiative, 75 railway stations nationwide are being redeveloped with a focus on the theme "Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi" (Heritage as well as Development). In Punjab, this includes the modernization of Jalandhar Cantonment, S A S Nagar (Mohali), Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Sri Anandpur Sahib stations. These upgrades aim to blend cutting-edge technology with local cultural aesthetics.

Furthermore, the inauguration of the Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli rail line, built at an estimated cost of ₹830 crore, will bridge the connectivity gap between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. This new line is expected to provide much-needed relief to the residents of Hoshiarpur and Una districts while facilitating easier access to major pilgrimage sites like Maa Chintpurni Temple.

Major Roadway and Expressway Developments

On the highway front, the Prime Minister will unveil National Highway projects exceeding ₹3,070 crore. A critical component is the inauguration of the 30.9-km Package-6 of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. This greenfield project is poised to drastically reduce travel time and fuel consumption for heavy vehicles and commuters alike. Additionally, the foundation stone for the six-lane Southern Ludhiana Bypass will be laid, which is set to decongest industrial corridors between Ludhiana and Bathinda.

Strengthening Healthcare in Chandigarh

Prior to his Punjab leg, the Prime Minister will visit Chandigarh to launch healthcare and education initiatives worth over ₹4,700 crore. Key projects include the inauguration of the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre at PGIMER. When combined with the Punjab projects, the Prime Minister's visit represents a massive infusion of over ₹10,000 crore into the regional economy.
