In a significant move to bolster vocational training and technical expertise in the state, the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT) has officially opened the admission window for Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Uttar Pradesh for the 2026-27 academic session. The online registration process, which commenced on July 11, is set to conclude on August 4.

Streamlined Merit-Based Admission

Departing from traditional competitive exam models, the authorities have confirmed that admissions will be conducted entirely on a merit basis. The selection process will rely solely on the marks obtained in the candidate's qualifying examination. This merit-driven approach aims to simplify the entry process for aspiring technicians and ensure that seats are allocated based on academic performance without the hurdle of a written entrance test.

Diverse Trade Options and Eligibility

The ITI system offers a wide array of specialized vocational courses designed to meet industry demands. Prospective students can choose from various trades, including Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Mechanic, Plumber, Wireman, Turner, Draftsman, and Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA). Depending on the specific trade, course durations range from one to two years. Eligibility criteria vary; while some basic trades accept students who have completed Class 8, most technical roles require a minimum of a Class 10 pass, with some advanced roles requiring Class 12 completion.

Application Protocol and Residency Requirements

It is crucial for aspirants to note that the entire process is strictly online. There is no provision for offline applications. Candidates must register through the official SCVT Uttar Pradesh portal, completing OTP-based mobile verification and uploading necessary academic and personal documents. A critical requirement is that applicants must be permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh and must produce a valid domicile certificate during the document verification stage.

Counseling and Reservation Policy

Following the publication of merit lists, the state will conduct multiple rounds of counseling and seat allotment. This multi-round system ensures that students who miss out on their preferred trade or institution in the initial phase still have a fair chance to secure a seat. Furthermore, reservation benefits for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) will be strictly implemented as per the prevailing state government norms.
